Buyers Guide

DAB radios come in various shapes and sizes, from the traditional portable radios to handheld ones that can fit inside your pocket.

Designs vary to suit your style. A wide variety of looks are available including a 1950s retro design, cotemporary cube-like radios and even radios that look like Marshall Guitar Amplifiers.

Whether you're looking for a standalone DAB radio or something a bit more special, there are a number of features to look out for:

Pause, Rewind & Record Radio Function

Certain DAB radios give you the option to pause and rewind live radio.

EPG (Electronic Programme Guide)

EPG allows you to browse all the programmes on at a particular station or time, and preset programmes that you plan to listen to. You can even record these.

Wi-Fi Radio

Wi-Fi is the latest way to receive radio. All you need to do is to set the radio's wireless link to connect to your wireless router and you can stream Internet radio immediately, without needing a computer to be switched on. With Wi-Fi radio you can listen to hundreds of stations from all over the world. The interface is simple: you select a country or genre and then pick a station from the vast list. You can also play your computer's Mp3 collection via the device, without the need for a cable.

Playback of other Media

DAB radios aren't necessarily limited to only radio. A number of models can play CDs or allow for iPod/mp3 playback.

USB

Some radios have USB connections. By plugging in your USB key you can play Mp3 tracks straight from the key. Some USB compatible radios will also play your Mp3 player's tracks by connecting the player to the radio via USB.

Mono/Stereo

DAB is available in Stereo (2 channel audio), but only certain DAB radios have two speakers to produce stereo output.
