What is 1080p HD?

Technology Guide

1080p means the resolution of the screen is 1920 x 1080 horizontal lines that are progressively scanned on to the screen.

Improved Image Quality

1080p is currently the optimum High Definition format. It combines the superior resolution of 1080i with the progressive scan smoothness of 720p. 1080p delivers twice as much information as 1080i or 720p resulting in a clearer, smoother picture.
Blu-ray discs, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 games consoles deliver true 1080p, whereas most HD television broadcasts are in 1080i or 720p formats.

Progressive HD Media Outputs

1080p is not supported on all HD screens.  ‘HD Ready’ screens will NOT support this format, but ‘Full HD’ or ‘HD Ready 1080p’ screens WILL. HD Ready 1080p screens meet minimum requirements of HD Ready with the addition of 1920 x 1080 pixels as well as 24Hz content reproduction.

When considering what screen to purchase ask yourself whether you will be using the screen for TV broadcasts only or for playing Blu-ray discs or Xbox 360 and Playstation games. Since there are no broadcasts in 1080p format, you will not be able to take advantage of the higher resolution offered by HD Ready 1080p screens for HD TV broadcasts. But for Blu-ray, Xbox 360 and Playstation games consoles or viewing HD digital photos you will find that 1080p screens offer you stunning image quality.
