Modern flat-panel TVs can be displayed in a number of ways; they can be mounted on the wall and come with stands allowing you to place them on cabinets or floor stands and even on surround sound racks that incorporate home cinema sound systems.
Wall Mounting
Mounting your TV to the wall can have its advantages. It means that you don’t require a stand or cabinet and so save space. It also looks more stylish with your TV looking more like a picture frame hung on the wall.
Most flat panel TVs attach to wall mounts via screws. To make things simple, both TVs and mounts feature screw holes that stick to a universal measurement known as VESA. These measurements refer to the distance between the four holes and can vary in size from 75 x 75 up to as large as 400 x 600mm. So be sure to check your TV’s VESA measurement before you choose your mount.
Other things to consider when picking a wall mount include whether you want to be able to move your TV once it’s attached to the mount. Some mounts allow you to do so, while others don't. Here’s a quick overview to the three main types of wall mount that we stock:
• Fixed – The TV cannot be moved once it’s mounted. Often cheaper, but you may find it hard to access the connections on the rear of your TV.
• Tilting – You have the option to bring your TV forward or push it back. This provides better access to the rear of the TV and can improve viewing angle.
• Double arm – The TV is attached to an arm that can extend forward and in some cases rotate to the left or right, giving you complete control over the screens position.
When picking a mount you must also make sure that the mount can handle the size and weight of your television. Most televisions on our site include weight information in the specification and our mounts include maximum weight details in the description.
