DVD & HDD Recorders
Today DVD and HDD Recorders are the most popular way to record video. The VHS recorder has almost become obsolete and most manufacturers don't produce them anymore in a standalone form. This is because DVD and HDD recorders offer far more advantages than the VHS recorder.
Record & Save Your Favourite Shows
Back in the days of VHS we'd have to skip through hours of video just to find a particular programme; this was inconvenient and wasn't good for the tape or the player. With DVD and HDD recorders this isn't an issue. Both formats use random access recording methods, meaning you can go straight to the start of a particular programme using the player's onscreen menu system and skip between programmes or go to particular points in the programme with ease.
Exceptional Recording Quality
Both formats have in-built television tuners (Freeview in most cases) allowing you to record programming while watching something else; some even let you record multiple programmes simultaneously. The recorders have onscreen Programme Guides so you can simply find the show or series from the list and set to record. You don't have to worry about programming in times or video plus codes and you can set programmes to record days in advance.
The DVD record function lets you backup video on to a DVD disc, a good way to share video and watch or transfer on other devices.
Certain models may contain a DV input (EEE1394) so you can record straight from your camera on to the hard disc or DVD. SD card inputs allow you to view photos on your screen and USB connections allow you to connect digital cameras and USB devices for on screen media playback and viewing.
