The HDC-HS300 is one of the first Panasonic camcorders to feature three brand new 1/4.1in CMOS sensors, each 3.05-megapixels. Together these can create 10.6 Megapixel still images and record video with a remarkable 6,210,000 effective motion image pixels – The most detailed video ever achieved by a Panasonic camcorder. This excellent picture quality is on-par with that produced by professional camcorders with stunning detail, rich colour gradation and excellent low light performance.
The HDCHS300 features a 120GB Hard Drive that can store up to 15 hours of top quality AVCHD video. Plus there’s also an SDHC card slot to store further video and stills. You can fit roughly 12 hours of video in HE mode on to a 32GB card and transfer video and images between the card and hard disk and vice versa. The camcorder can even carry on recording from one to the other without recording needing to be stopped.
Touch the screen and the camcorder does the rest
The camcorder comes with a high-quality 2.7-inch touch screen display. This makes adjusting settings quick and easy, especially for controlling settings such as iris, shutter speed and white balance. The display works with the AF system. For example you can simply touch the part of the frame that you want to be in focus or correctly exposed and the camcorder does the rest. You can also set AF tracking using the screen; Just touch the subject in the frame and the camcorder creates a box around it. The box then moves with the subject keeping the exposure and focus correct the whole time.
You can set the HS300 to Panasonic’s renowned iA mode, a collection of useful technologies that can improve your video. This includes Advanced O.I.S, which compensates for hand shake and reduces blurring, Intelligent Contrast to ensure that your video has the correct contrast and Intelligent Scene Selector which automatically picks the most appropriate scene setting based on the shooting conditions to ensure the optimal results.
Versatile lens ring giving you complete control
A useful feature, particularly for those who want complete control is the manual lens ring. This lets you manually control a range of functions including zoom, focus, iris, shutter speed and white balance.
A range of microphones are strategically positioned around the camcorder for recording 5.1 surround sound. There’s also a full-size accessory shoe on top of the camcorder for microphones and lights, as well as a microphone input and a headphone output for monitoring audio levels. Other useful connections found on the camcorder include mini HDMI for connecting to an HDTV, component and composite analogue.
