The Panasonic HDC-SD90 is ready to shoot superb Full HD 1920 x 1080, 50p video with an impressive 28-Mbps bit rate. The SD90’s video has twice the information compared to 1080i (interlace) has minimal afterimages and flickering caused by subject motion and looks crisp, smooth and contains intricate details. Image quality is also enhanced further, thanks to the camcorder’s high performance Intelligent Resolution technology, Crystal Engine PRO technology and Noise reduction (NR) technology. The Panasonic HDC-SD90 is equipped with a 28mm wide-angle lens and impressive ultra-telephoto 40x Intelligent Zoom. The versatile lens offers extra shooting diversity and lets you perfectly capture your subject indoors or in tight spaces. You can also capture wide landscapes and large groups and shoot from close distances whilst still fitting both the subject and the surrounding area into the frame. Intelligent Zoom makes use of high resolution technology to provide ultra-telephoto 40x shooting beyond the camcorder’s optical zoom range of 21x, so you can precisely capture a distant subject.
The Panasonic HDC-SD90 also boasts Panasonic’s new HYBRID O.I.S. technology with combines optical and electrical image stabilisation systems to supress blurring caused by hand-shake. The technology can detect the subtle blurring caused when the entire arm moves vertically or horizontally, as well as vertical or horizontal wrist movements. A lens in the optical system and a sensor in the electrical system then comes into action to eliminate the blurring that this movement can cause. The technology even makes a difference when you’re shooting on the move or whilst zooming – Situations where hand-shake is common. Plus the HDC-SD90 features an O.I.S. Lock feature which can be used for situations such as bird watching where zooming at a fixed angle is required. O.I.S Lock can be activated at the press of a button and offers maximised blur detection sensitivity where all types of camera movements are corrected without image degradation.
Easy video with great results
Panasonic’s renowned iA (Intelligent Auto) mode is available at anytime to get great results with minimum effort. iA can be activated at the press of a button and features six advanced functions which are automatically activated when required. These functions include AF/AE Tracking which lets you “lock on” to a subject by simply touching the camcorder’s LCD screen. Your subject is then tracked even if they move to one side or turn and the AF/AE settings are constantly optimised to ensure that your subject always looks sharp and clear. Intelligent Contrast Control ensures that your video doesn’t suffer from overblown highlights and blocked shadows, leaving you with natural images with correct contrast. Plus Intelligent Scene Selector detects what scene you’re capturing and automatically switches to the most appropriate Scene Mode
iA also boasts clever Face Recognition technology which can detect previously registered faces in the frame and then automatically optimise the focus and exposure for each of them. You can register up to six faces and the technology will even track the subject as they move, ensuring consistently great results. Plus if you activate Smile Shot, the SD90 will automatically capture a still image during video recording whenever your subject smiles – So there’s no need to pack the camera!
The Panasonic HDC-SD90 also features an external microphone input, a feature usually found on more expensive camcorders.
