Dual Image Stabilisation is also included and this combines the best sensor shift mechanisms of Optical Image Stabilisation with the sophisticated algorithms of Digital Image Stabilisation to ensure crystal-clear images without the usual blur.

Clever Face Detection technology activates whenever you take a picture with the ST500. This automatically detects faces in the frame and then optimises the focus and exposure for up to nine of them, making each one look great. The technology can also recognise faces that have been previously captured and prioritises them so that your friends and family look their best. Plus if you want to ensure that faces look even better you can set the camera to the special Beauty Shot mode. This enhances facial skin tone to make it look brighter, smoother and fit for glossy magazines. The dreaded red eye effected can also be combated thanks to Red-Eye Fix and both this and Beauty Shot can be used whilst snapping or in playback mode.
With the ST500, blinking doesn’t have to ruin a good photo. If the subject’s eyes are closed, the camera proceeds to take three photos in quick succession and guarantee a great-looking, blink-free shot. The camera can also automatically snap for you whenever it detects a smile, so you’ll never miss that perfect photo opportunity.
Smart Auto is ideal when it comes to tricky situations where you’re unsure about camera settings or when you just want to shoot on the spot and still produce great photos. It uses clever technology to assess the type of photo that you’re creating and optimises camera settings instantaneously to get the best results.
The ST500 is also equipped to create great-looking HD video with a incredibly detailed and sharp 1280x720 30fps resolution. Then when you're done, you can connect the camera to an HDTV and playback your creations on the big screen.
