The Nikon J1 has a 10.1 megapixel CX-format CMOS, Full HD 1080p movie mode, is extremely compact and has an interchangeable lens system.
The Nikon J11030 kit comprises of the J1 body plus the lightweight 1 NIKKOR VR 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 3x wide zoom lens, (35mm equivalent range from a wide 27mm to 81mm) making it a great start-up kit. The lens has been designed to let you capture everything from daily snapshots to intimate portraits with ease and the lens is optimized for movie recording plus boasts Vibration Reduction for sharp stills and steady movies, plus has STM (Stepping motor) designed for super-quiet autofocus performance, great in quiet environments and especially important when recording movies and Power Focus, allowing you to manually focus using controls on the camera body.
Having the new Super high-speed autofocus system, the J1 focuses so fast you can capture moments without delay. It boasts an amazing number of focus points for consistently sharp results, plus can instantly switch between Phase-Detection AF for shiny or moving subjects and Contrast Detect AF if your subject is stationary, or poorly lit. There is also the EXPEED 3 image processor, able to process date at a phenomenal 600 megapixels a second, enabling you to take photos using shutter speeds ranging from 1/16,000 to 30s and at up to 60frames per second at full resolution 10.1 Megapixels.
The Nikon J110 also has Full HD video capabilities so can record and play movies at 1920 x 1080 /30fps or even 60fps and has at the other end of the scale a slow motion movie mode at a fantastic 400fps (640 x 480) or an even faster 1200fps (320 x 120), if you missed it, it wasn’t there.
The Nikon J1 has a 3", approx. 460k-dot, TFT LCD screen providing an easy to read view of all the information you will ever need, including Full-frame and thumbnail (4, 9, or 72 images or calendar) playback with playback zoom, movie playback, slide show, histogram display, auto image rotation, and rating option, plus all camera settings and image information can be viewed when desired.
The Nikon J1 is also bristling with fantastic filming functions ranging from Motion Snapshot: Which by harnessing the camera’s processing speed to simultaneously record a slow motion movie and a still image, so as soon as you’ve taken your shot it instantly combines the two to create a ‘living image’ and thus capture a moment in time as never before. Or the Smart Photo Selector: making sure you always get the best shot. The J1 shoots 20 high-resolution images before and after you release the shutter, and then saves your ‘best’ five for you to choose from. (Recommendation is based on facial expression, composition and focus), to the Advanced movie recording: which lets you take a full-resolution photo whilst filming, without interrupting your recording.
