The Yaesu VX-7R has a tough magnesium body with rubber padding. Waterproof sealing protects the transceivers’ circuits against water damage and allows it to be used up to 3-feet underwater for up to 30 minutes.
The VX-7R’s dependable FET power amplifier circuit provides 5 Watts of power output on the 50, 144 and 430 MHz Amateur bands. 6-meter AM enthusiasts can make use of 1Watt of carrier power on the 50 MHz band. You can select from four different power levels, each offering an individual degree of battery conservation.
You can choose from four modes of Dual Receive, including simultaneous reception of two VHF frequencies, two UHF frequencies, one VHF and one UHF frequency, or one "general coverage" frequency and one "Ham" frequency. You can also set the VX7-R to reduce the audio level on the "Sub" band when a call is received on the "Main" band.
The Yaesu VX-7R also comes with an "Internet" key for quick access to the WIRES repeater-internet linking system. This allows you to communicate over long distances.
The Yaesu VX-7R features an impressive 900+ memory channels – unheard for an amateur transceiver. This includes 450 "regular" memories, 10 "One-Touch" memories, 40 programmable band-edge-limit memories 12 "Home" channels, 10 Weather Band memories, 89 Shortwave Broadcast preset memories, 280 Marine channels and 10 "Hyper" memories that store complete transceiver configuration data. Access is simple and easy thanks to the 8-character labelling system.
A clear, easy-to read 132 x 64 dot matrix screen displays both the Main and Sub band frequencies, operating mode, and S-meters for both bands. While graphical and pictorial tools make operating the transceiver quick and straightforward.
The Yaesu VX-7R also features a built-in in 24 hour clock with calendar, an emergency mode which emits an alarm beep from the speaker and uses a strobe that will flash in sequential colours. The VX-7R is powered by the rechargeable-80L1 lithium-ion battery pack.
